Caribou High School students donate blankets for Cary patients

CARIBOU, Maine — Students from Caribou High School’s JMG program recently donated blankets to patients at Cary Medical Center.

A yearlong project, hosted by the CHS innovation center, gave students the opportunity to create something with community impact. They chose to make blankets that could be donated.

“The materials for all the blankets were donated by a local veteran and CHS alumni,” said Valerie Waldemarson, JMG master specialist for CHS.

Students were taught the skill of blanket making, and were able to share this skill with others. Upon the completion of the project, students got to choose where to donate the blankets. “They chose Cary Medical Center for their dedication to student health and success during the pandemic, as well as their continued support with all student learning opportunities,” Waldemarson said.

“We are always happy to partner with Caribou High School, and their JMG program. This generous donation will help keep a number of patients warm and comforted throughout their stay at Cary,” said Kris Doody, RN and CEO at Cary.
