LIMESTONE, Maine — This year Twin Riverswood will be hosting the Limestone Renaissance Faire once again at Albert Michaud Memorial Park in the baseball/soccer fields, located on the Van Buren Road in downtown Limestone on Saturday, Sept. 9 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, Sept 10 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
This year’s theme is “Hokku: Leaves Ride Wind” and will encompass the time periods from 1450-1600 introducing influences from the countries along the Silk Road trade routes, Japanese influences from the country’s trade with Europe and Elizabethan ones as well.
Some of the highlights this year will be more merchants including ReiM, a Renaissance clothing boutique that will have a dressing room and do alterations on site; Shining Moon Whole Health Center which will offer Reiki sessions on site, as well as the return of the Recycled Shakespeare Company and harpist Amy Gagnon Kercsmar, along with Coriandra’s Caravan a musical ensemble put together by Cori Lovejoy performing musical selections influenced by this year’s theme and time periods.
The fighters from WARG will return to do swordplay and archery instruction and this year Aria Stewart, henna artist, will be on site in the Glen area with her husband at Wanderer’s Hermitage, amongst other attractions in the area.
Children’s activities and an art gallery competition similar to the Festival of Trees will also be part of this year’s festivities.
A website has been developed for this event, but people can also see updates on the Limestone Renaissance Faire Facebook page.
Funding for the event is always necessary, and as with any specialized event such as this it takes a lot to pull it off successfully, so we are reaching out to local businesses and organizations asking for help sponsoring LRF which will cover the costs for performers, demonstrators, activity supplies for the event, insurance for the event, and other associated venue costs.
Sponsorships are done at different levels each with a medieval title, and those who send funds are mentioned on the LRF Facebook page, the Twin Riverswood Facebook page and will be in the program given out at the ticket booth on the 9th and 10th.
This year sponsors will also have their names put into a drawing for a Celtic dagger to be drawn on Sept 10 at the closing ceremonies of the event.
Sponsorship funds must reach the event coordinator no later than Aug. 30 so that venue costs and insurance can be met and all other fees on hand as well as pay the performers and demos.
Twin Riverswood will have their display and Tinker’s Dame where some members of the non profit will have their booths with wares for sale, and on the 10th there will be a Knight and Damsels Tea for children 3 and up with activities and refreshments.
The Ren Faire goes rain or shine unless there is really inclement weather, so those who wish to attend are encouraged to bring umbrellas if necessary.
There are still openings for people who wish to volunteer to help Twin Riverswood put on the event, do a demo or merchant wares that would have been used in the time period from 1400-1600, and the organization is currently looking for food vendors to provide foodstuffs that would have been eaten in the time frame ( meat pies, roasted meats, pastries, etc} as well as other delicacies for the event.
Merchants and food vendors have a modest fee of $10 per day to have a 10×10 space and must provide their own pavilion/ canopy as well as any energy source they may need. All participants must have paperwork in to the event coordinator no later than Aug. 16 in order to be listed in the program.
