Project recognizes honored mothers

ST. AGATHA, Maine — Fern Desjardin, then president of the Ladies of St. Anne in St. Agatha, asked who would be interested in working up a presentation for the 19 years when the Mother of the Year was a project conducted by the organization. Andie Labbe, a retired teacher and genealogist for the Michaud family reunion, volunteered for the task.

It was at that time the church hall was being refurbished and the posts holding the portraits of the Mothers of Year had come up short in number. It was determined that special scrapbooks could contain the portraits along with a write-up on each recipient. Labbe started out by contacting the families involved and collected information on each Mother of the Year.

Four years later Labbe  has completed the project and has done an excellent presentation for each candidate. The albums will now be housed at the St. Agathe Historical Society’s Preservation Building during the summer months and then stored at the Long Lake Public Library for the colder seasons.
