PRESQUE ISLE, Maine  – This holiday season, UScellular is giving back to the local community by donating needed items to Boys & Girls Clubs of Border Towns. With its “Gift of Connection” program, UScellular is donating $5,000 worth of winter sports gear to support The Boys & Girls Club’s mission of providing youth a safe place to play, grow and learn.

This donation includes seven men’s snowshoes, five women’s snowshoes, and 20 youth snowshoe kits and 35 sleds. UScellular has enjoyed a long relationship with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Border Towns. The clubs currently have 165 hot spots and two years of service free from UScellular as part of the company’s After School Access Project. UScellular’s After School Access Project provides mobile hotspots and two years of service to nonprofits that support youth after the school day has ended and offers safe internet access for homework and education.

This past September, UScellular announced a $32,300 grant to Boys & Girls Clubs of Border Towns in Presque Isle in support of K-12 Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics and academic enrichment programs happening at the clubs.

“Boys & Girls Clubs of Border Towns does so much for the Presque Isle and surrounding communities, so we want to help them deliver the much-needed support they provide with a donation of winter sports gear,” said Jody Doughty, store manager at UScellular in Presque Isle. “At UScellular, we strive to unleash the power of our communities and are excited to help connect people to what matters most this holiday season.”

This donation is one of 40 non-profit donations to organizations across the country in honor of UScellular’s 40th anniversary. The company is helping organizations that bring people and communities together to enjoy genuine connections through arts, music, sports and food with needed supplies.

“Our youth and communities see our local clubhouses as safe havens,” said Donna Delong, unit director for the Boys and Girls Club of Mi’kmaq Nation. “We are so thankful to UScellular for their continued support of our Clubs. The winter snowshoes and sleds will encourage our kids to challenge themselves and help them enjoy the winter months.”

Since 2009, UScellular has invested more than $35 million in monetary donations, technology resources and countless experiences to nonprofit organizations across the country.

In addition, UScellular is inviting the community to participate in the Gift of Connection through a donation drive at UScellular retail locations. People are encouraged to donate new sports equipment, art supplies, or family board games. Visit uscellular.com/store-locator to find your closest location.
