CARIBOU, Maine — Caribou High School is excited to announce that it will be participating in a state-wide student mock election on Tuesday, Oct. 29. The event, aimed at fostering civic engagement and political awareness among high school students, will simulate a full-scale election, giving students the opportunity to experience the democratic process firsthand.

Schools from across the state of Maine will participate, with students casting votes for presidential and congressional candidates. The mock election is designed to mirror real-life election procedures, including voter registration, campaigning and ballot counting.

“Our goal is to empower students to understand the importance of civic responsibility and encourage them to be informed voters when they come of age,” said Allison Ladner, the social studies department chair at Caribou High School. “This event will not only give students insight into how elections work but will also inspire them to participate in their communities and government.”

The mock election is part of a broader initiative to promote youth civic participation across Maine. Students have been preparing for the event by researching candidates, discussing key issues in their classes, and developing campaign materials. On election day, Caribou High School will serve as the polling location for students, with mock election officials to create a realistic voting environment.

The results of the mock election will be announced later in the day and shared with local media, giving students a platform to voice their opinions on the upcoming real-world elections. The event is supported by several local organizations, including the Maine Civic Engagement Project and the League of Women Voters.

Caribou High School, located in Aroostook County, is committed to providing quality education that prepares students for civic responsibility, leadership, and lifelong learning. The school offers a wide range of academic and extracurricular opportunities aimed at developing well-rounded individuals. For more information, visit www.rsu39.org.
