Big deer – Reggie Porter of Madawaska, showed his little daughter the big deer he bagged last Wednesday in November of 1974, at Patten, 40 miles west of Houlton. A meat cutter for Sampson’s Supermarket in Madawaska, Porter bagged the deer while hunting with Ed Textor, who also works at Sampson’s. The deer dressed out at 178 pounds, not quite big enough to gain him membership in the exclusive “Big Buck” club. These special size deer have to weigh at least 200 pounds. Textor came home empty handed. Porter’s been bagging bucks almost every hunting season for the last ten years, although he missed one last year. He used a 30-30 rifle.
