Keynote speaker Shawn Lahey, programming supervisor at MMG Insurance and a graduate of the college, shared insights on the value of academic excellence and service. He emphasized the importance of leadership and personal growth within the educational community and encouraged students to continue their dedication to their studies and community.

Founded in 1918 by presidents of two-year colleges in Missouri, Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society is committed to acknowledging and promoting the academic success of community college students. The society provides extensive opportunities for members to pursue growth through honors, leadership and service programs.
Recognized in 1929 by the American Association of Community Colleges as the official honor society for two-year colleges, Phi Theta Kappa has since grown into the largest honor society in American higher education, with more than 1.3 million members across 1,100 chapters in the United States, U.S. territories, Canada, Germany and Japan.
To qualify for membership, students must meet rigorous academic standards, maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher while completing at least 12 credit hours of coursework applicable to a two-year degree. Members are encouraged to further their academic and professional achievements through the society’s four pillars: scholarship, leadership, service and fellowship.
