On Monday, Nov. 11, Houlton Elks Lodge 835 provided a free meal to all of the area veterans and their families.
At the start of the dinner, Exalted Ruler Paul Austin greeted the crowd and explained how grateful Elks members are for their service and sacrifice.
The meal of pork cutlet, baked potato and all of the fixings was served to 80-plus attendees. To-go meals were also delivered to the local first responders who were on duty and unable to attend.
Nationally, Elks invest more than $80 million every year for benevolent, educational and patriotic community-minded programs. Veterans Day holds a special place in the hearts of many members of the Houlton Lodge. Giving back to veterans in Aroostook County by serving a free dinner is just another way the Lodge says thank you for the sacrifices made for our communities and country.
The Houlton Lodge puts on this meal every year to thank local veterans, letting them know they have made a lasting impact on the lives of Americans and countless others.
