Banker retires – Ronaldo Michaud of Fort Kent has retired after working 46 years in local banks. It all began in June of 1928 when Ronaldo was hired to set up Christmas Clubs for the First National Bank of Fort Kent. Shortly after, he became a cashier. In 1956 the bank was transferred to Northern National Bank, and Michaud was named assistant manager, a position he held until his retirement last month in November of 1974. A retirement supper honoring Michaud was held at Claude’s Restaurant in Fort Kent.

The St. John Valley Reads To ensure the St. John Valley children learn to read well and independently by the end of third grade, community members and the University of Maine at Fort Kent are teaming together through the local effort of the nationwide America Reads Program. Through regular commitment, volunteers are trained and have the opportunity to serve in the most upper St. John Valley elementary schools. The book, A Pussycat’s Christmas, was being read in the Kindergarten class at Dr. Levesque School in Frenchville.

A beagles recovery — An unidentified female beagle was recovering at the Fort Kent Animal Hospital on Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2014, after being rescued in Frenchville from a coyote trap, according to Dean Lavoie, the Frenchville animal control officer. No owner came forward to claim the dog. The beagle had no broken bones and the veterinarian was following an injured paw to heal more before deciding on whether or not to amputate, said Lavoie. The dog had no ID microchip and was not spayed, according to Lavoie.
