City officials meet with Probus

Presque Isle City Manager Tyler Brown and Assistant City Manager Sonja Eyler led a discussion of events concerning development in business and industry as well as other topics of interest during the December meeting of the Central Aroostook Probus Club.

Those topics included growth at Skyway Industrial Park and the Presque Isle International Airport, outdoor skating at the Sargent Family Community Center, street paving, and details about those experiencing homelessness in the city.

Also discussed was Presque Isle’s role as a service center for Aroostook County. Presque Isle has a resident population of about 9,000 and a working day population of thousands more as people come from many miles around to work, attend medical services, shop for their needs, fly in and out and attend schools and colleges. All of this has costs and benefits.

City employees are a dedicated and hardworking group, the speakers said. Some are specialists, such as fire and police personnel, who serve in investigations throughout The County.

The next PROBUS meeting will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 16, at Northern Maine Community College’s Reed Commons. Visitors are welcome.
