Acadia Federal Credit Union is proud to announce the creation of the Peter Saucier Memorial Scholarship, a $5,000 award aimed at empowering our next generation with educational opportunities. This scholarship pays tribute to Saucier, a beloved board member and volunteer who devoted over 28 years of service to the credit union and its members.
Saucier’s legacy is one of kindness, generosity and positivity. Whether he was volunteering at community events, lending a helping hand or sharing a friendly smile, Saucier’s gentle and caring nature left a profound impact on everyone he encountered. Through this scholarship, Acadia FCU hopes to continue Saucier’s mission of enriching lives and fostering a spirit of service.
Saucier began his journey with Acadia FCU in 1996, joining the board of directors of what was then Fort Kent Federal Credit Union. Over nearly three decades, he helped guide the organization through significant growth and change, always with the best interests of members at heart. Beyond his leadership, Saucier was a cornerstone of community events, often found behind the grill, tending the bar or taking on any task that needed doing.
“We are proud to sponsor this memorial scholarship in honor of Peter Saucier, whose leadership and dedication left a lasting impact on our credit union and community,” said David Desjardins, Acadia FCU president and CEO. “This scholarship reflects Pete’s commitment to education and opportunity, keeping his legacy alive by supporting the success of future generations.”
The Peter Saucier Memorial Scholarship celebrates students who embody Saucier’s qualities of kindness, resilience, and a commitment to helping others. Applicants must be attending Fort Kent Community High School, plan to attend a community college or university after their senior year and be active Acadia FCU members or have parents or guardians who are members. One $5,000 scholarship recipient will be selected annually by the Acadia FCU Peter Saucier Memorial Scholarship selection committee, which includes at least one of Saucier’s family members.
In addition to the new memorial scholarship, Acadia FCU has enhanced their regular scholarship program, which now offers four $3,000 scholarships, totaling $12,000 — an increase of $4,000 from the previous year. This program is open to college-bound Maine high school seniors who attend schools in Aroostook, Hancock, Penobscot, Piscataquis or Washington counties and are active Acadia FCU members or whose parents or guardians are active Acadia FCU members.
Applications for both scholarships are now available online at acadiafcu.org. All submissions are due by April 13. Full eligibility criteria are detailed in the application.
