The Can-Am 250 was progressing well, organizers said.
Can-Am organizers said on Saturday evening that Fort Kent’s Can-Am included a total of 625 dogs on 48 teams. And 400 volunteers worked to ensure the event was possible.
While there was plenty of snowfall on the morning of the race, more than 30 truckloads of snow were dumped onto Main Street in order to build the starting line for the three races.
Volunteers were thrilled to learn that a total of seven inches of snow were predicted for the day, organizers said. Likewise, spectators were excited to see the first teams cross the finish line in the afternoon.
“The crowd of spectators went wild with cheers of excitement as three teams were in sight of the finish line at the time of the first finish,” the organizers said in a press release. “The town was buzzing with visitors from near and far all over the United States and Canada.”
