AUGUSTA, Maine — It was another overtime win for the Northern Maine Moose boys lacrosse team, 8-7 at Cony High School of Augusta on May 17.

To start the game the Moose paid tribute to the Houlton Band of Maliseet Indians and shared this message from the Northern Maine Moose Lacrosse Club, “Thank you for sponsoring team jackets for the boys lacrosse team. It is a privilege and honor to wear your logo. We thank you for helping Northern Maine Moose Lacrosse grow in this community by allowing us to use your land and fields for games and practice. We would not be where we are today without your support.  We honor you at today’s game. “

The winning goal came off a faceoff win by Colton Simoes to Isaiah Ervin who sent the ball to — who else — Eli Brown “Mr. Overtime” who put the ball away for the third overtime goal this season.

“I don’t know if I can take many more overtimes physically or emotionally,” head coach Adam Simoes said. “This is our third overtime win but that goes to show how hard our guys will work through the whole game. Our defense held a strong offensive team off. If you look at the scores of the Cony Rams they have scored much higher games so that says a lot for our defense. Proud of the guys today to pull it out. The game-winner goes to show what happens when we capitalize on a faceoff win and score a fast break goal. They put it together at the right time.”

Ervin led the team with five goals and three assists. Simoes had a goal and two assists and Carter Carmichael also scored. Brown’s goal came in overtime.

Colton Simoes won 84 percent of faceoffs.

Carter Smith had an outstanding game with 11 saves from the relentless Cony Rams.

Players of the game are Simoes, Ervin, Smith, Eli Brown and Brandon Barton. Barton held Cony’s top scorer to minimal goals throughout the game and held him to zero goals in the second, allowing the Northern Maine Moose to pull out the win.

“It took a team effort to win this game today,” Simoes said.
