Wednesday-Friday
High pressure will remain across the region today with a surface trough located to the west of Maine near the Saint Lawrence River. Meanwhile, a shallow upper-level trough approaches today and crosses the region tonight with partly sunny skies over the Valley today and mostly cloudy skies tonight. Light winds will help some patchy fog form overnight.
High pressure will build across the region Thursday with mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies and some isolated afternoon showers with a couple-hundredths an inch rainfall possible for most locations. Skies become mostly clear Thursday night with mostly sunny skies Friday and mostly clear skies Friday night.
Saturday-Tuesday
High pressure slides Saturday into Sunday, with a warm front and southerly flow drawing warmer temperatures into the region. Mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies are expected Saturday with a slight chance of afternoon showers as the warm front moves across the St. John Valley.
On Sunday, low pressure lifting towards James Bay in Canada pulls an occluded front towards the region with a chance of afternoon showers for Valley communities. A chance of showers continues Sunday night with showers likely Monday into Tuesday as the occluded front approaches and crosses the area. Isolated afternoon thunderstorms are also possible Monday and Tuesday.
Currently, precipitation amounts are uncertain due to model uncertainty, particularly with regards to atmospheric dynamics and some subtropical moisture that may be channeled into the region from a system off the Mid-Atlantic early next week, which could enhance precipitation amounts for northern Maine.
