Job Corps graduate takes job at BIW

The Caribou Veterans of Foreign Wars recently congratulated Loring Job Corps student Ketia Crompton on her successful graduation from the Job Corps electrical program and gaining employment in support of the U.S Navy at Bath Iron Works.

“The Caribou VFW is proud of Ketia’s commitment to herself and the country as she continues to pursue growth in both leadership and civic responsibilities,” Caribou VFW Commander Roger Felix said. “The Lister Knowlton VFW is proud of Ketia and her accomplishments at Loring as well as the many success stories yet to come from future leaders just like her.”

Crompton was instrumental while at Loring in participating in a work-based learning project that transitioned all the lighting at the Caribou VFW post from florescent to LED lighting.  This cost saving project has assisted the post in its continued mission in support of veterans, and all are thankful for Ketia and her fellow electrical students for their work in getting this project from just a thought to competition.

“To say the last couple of months have been both emotional and stressful for everyone in the Job Corps programs would be a major understatement,” Felix said. “However, even with all the many unknowns, students just like Ketia continued to shine bright each and every day.”

Crompton’s dedicated resilience has paid off, as she is now a member of the BIW team that is currently building tomorrow’s war ships for the U.S Navy.
