Wintergreen to feature the artwork of Pickett in October

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine—Wintergreen Arts Center will feature the work of Jillelaine Pickett during the month of October.  The opening reception of Jillelaine’s show will be held Friday evening, Oct. 3 from 6-7:45 p.m. during Presque Isle’s First Friday Art Walk. Live music will be provided by Douglass Drew and Benjamin Yeager.

Born and raised in Presque Isle, Pickett started her training as an artist as soon as she could hold a crayon. She quickly  developed her own style influenced by artists such as illustrator Mary Blair and other gentle, bright art found in classic children’s literature. Pickett’s unique style is a blend of these sweet illustrations and the wild, rugged landscapes of her beloved northern Maine.

“Jillelaine has certainly found her voice as an artist,” said Gretchen Violette, Wintergreen’s program director. “She  continues to discover new ways of sharing her art.”

Pickett ’s wearable art, including T-shirts and sweatshirts, will also be featured and available for sale during her opening  reception and throughout the month of October at Wintergreen.

“This will be Jillelaine’s third show at Wintergreen over the last decade,” added Violette. “We are truly holding our breath to see her new creations and welcome her back home to Presque Isle.”

Pickett lives with her husband and daughter in a tiny house in the swamps of Eliot. Generally Pickett can be found outside with her pets Mocha and Buddha, and a mythology podcast keeping her company while she makes art under the sky in all manner of weather.
