Aroostook Agency on Aging launches ‘Age with Attitude’ Photo Contest to celebrate Older Americans Month

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — To celebrate Older Americans Month this May, the Aroostook Agency on Aging is inviting photographers of all ages and skill levels to participate in its inaugural “Age with Attitude” Photo Contest — a community-wide initiative highlighting the creativity, contributions and vibrant lives of older adults across Maine. Photo submissions will be accepted throughout March, with selected images exhibited publicly in May.

The Age with Attitude Photo Contest features two award categories designed to celebrate both the artistry of photographers and the vibrant presence of older adults in our communities.

The All-Ages Photographer Award will recognize a photographer of any age whose submitted  image thoughtfully features an older adult (age 60-plus) engaged in meaningful activities they love, especially those reflecting life in Maine’s rural communities. The Older Adult Photographer Award will honor a photographer age 60 or older, with submissions open to any subject matter. Both awards will be selected by a formal judging panel comprised of local photographers and members of the Agency’s Artists for Aging committee.

In addition, a People’s Choice Award will be determined through public participation. Throughout the month of May, community members will be invited to vote online for their favorite exhibited image, ensuring that the community has a voice in recognizing work that resonates with them.

Selected photographs will be professionally printed and displayed during a public exhibition in May,  culminating in a special gallery reception during the First Friday Art Walk. The exhibit is part of the Agency’s ongoing commitment to promoting positive images of aging and highlighting the creativity, talent and continued contributions of older adults across northern Maine.

Photo submissions will be accepted online through March 31 via the Agency’s secure contest platform. Photographers can review full contest guidelines and upload their entries at
