The County Federal Credit Union awards community grant to support veterans and families

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The County Federal Credit Union is proud to announce the awarding of a Community Mini-Grant to Witt’s End Wilderness, a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating meaningful outdoor experiences for veterans and their families in Northern Maine.

In celebration of its 70th anniversary in 2026, the credit union launched a Community Mini-Grant initiative to provide financial support to nonprofit organizations leading impactful projects across the region.

Witt’s End Wilderness uses nature-based programming to foster connection, healing and recreation for veterans and their families. Through guided outdoor adventures and community experiences, the organization helps participants build resilience, strengthen relationships and reconnect with the natural environment.

“We are honored to support Witt’s End Wilderness and the important work they do for veterans and their families,” Dan Bagley, executive vice president at The County FCU, said. “Their mission reflects the credit union philosophy of people helping people, and we are proud to invest in programs that strengthen individuals, families, and communities.”

The funding will support the purchase of a refrigerator and range, enabling Witt’s End Wilderness to use other funding to continue expanding access to outdoor experiences for veterans throughout Northern Maine.

“We are deeply grateful to The County FCU for this support,” Jeremy Wittine of Witt’s End Wilderness said. “This grant will help us continue providing meaningful outdoor opportunities that bring veterans and families together, build confidence, and create lasting memories.”
