Presque Isle High School announces commencement speaker

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — David Bartlett, Presque Isle High School principal, is pleased to announce that this year’s commencement speaker is Harold (Hal) Stewart, II. Stewart was born, raised and was a longtime resident of Presque Isle, and graduated from Presque Isle High School in 1980.

Stewart attended the University of Maine, graduating from the College of Engineering in 1984. After working briefly in the engineering field he attended law school at Capital University in Columbus, Ohio and graduated cum laude in 1988. After law school and passing the bar Stewart returned to Presque Isle where he practiced law for nearly 30 years and raised his family. Stewart’s law practice focused on litigation and trial work and in 2015 he was inducted as a fellow to the American College of Trial Lawyers.  

In 2016 Stewart was appointed to the Maine Superior Court, and  presided in Aroostook, Cumberland, Androscoggin, Hancock and Washington counties. In 2026, Justice Stewart retired from presiding full time and assumed active retired status on the Superior Court. He currently resides in Bangor but returns frequently to Aroostook County to visit family and friends and for temporary sittings in the local courts.

Presque Isle High School will hold commencement at 6 p.m. June 5 in the gymnasium. This is a ticketed event.
