On Friday, May 22, we had a very special lady recognized at the Central Aroostook Humane Society.
Not only did Carolyn Cheney volunteer for more than 50 years for the humane society, but she also spent years volunteering for the University Federal Credit Union.
She recently retired her position with the credit union, and staff wanted to do something special for her to recognize all her dedicated years. They knew that the Humane Society was near and dear to her heart and decided they would like to honor her with a special “Carolyn’s Bench” that would be displayed at our shelter.

We all enjoyed a wonderful celebration with representatives driving up from Bangor and Portland to present this gift to the shelter and Carolyn.
The plaque on the bench reads: “In recognition of Carolyn Cheney’s volunteerism to University Credit Union for over 50 years, including 18 years as a Board Director. Carolyn’s Bench is placed outside the Central Aroostook Humane Society to bring together her two passions. Thank you, Carolyn, for making such an impact on both organizations in your community.”
We at the Central Aroostook Humane Society and Carolyn herself were also excited to have our old “Garfield” sign installed on our new building. Scott Gagnon from Lasting Impressions spent many hours repairing and painting all the colorful characters. Now our new shelter is complete.

We truly want to thank Carolyn for the many years that she has spent writing thousands of “thank you” notes, attending countless board meetings, writing articles and always being front and center when events were being held to raise funds to support the animals.
Her heart is huge and her generosity and humor touches everyone around her. Thank you, dear friend.
