Roland “Danny” Martin of Sinclair announced his candidacy for the Democratic nomination for House District 2 in the Maine House of Representatives, which includes the communities of Cross Lake, Frenchville, Grand Isle, Madawaska, Madawaska Lake, Perham, St. Agatha, Sinclair and Van Buren.
Martin is a former county administrator for Aroostook County and former town manager of Frenchville and Madawaska.
“I have been incredibly fortunate to represent my constituents in the state Legislature,” said Martin. “I am humbled to be encouraged by so many who place their confidence in me to help deliver results for the St. John Valley.”
When he served as House chair of the Legislature’s transportation committee, Martin helped write and sign into law unanimous bipartisan Highway Fund budgets that invested in road, bridge and highway funding.
“Roads and bridges are something we all use every day,” he said. “Too often lately, we have seen bridges being shut down, culverts washing out, and roads going unattended after the winter’s ice heaves. It is imperative that we address this issue immediately instead of ignoring it and hoping it will magically fix itself.”
Serving on the Inland Fisheries and Wildlife committee, Martin worked on legislation to redirect funds to Maine ATV and snowmobile clubs and promoted sensible hunting and fishing legislation.
He worked with potato farmers, promoted cross-cultural and economic collaboration with New Brunswick and Quebec and worked on multimodal infrastructure and marine port development to boost Maine trade and exports
He also sponsored legislation that established the Office of Policy Innovation and the Future.
