Nineteen seniors crossed the stage and received their diplomas during Ashland District School’s graduation ceremony, held on Friday, June 5, in the school gymnasium.

Family members, friends, faculty and community members gathered to celebrate the accomplishments of the Class of 2026 and recognize the bright futures that lie ahead for graduates.

The ceremony began with the traditional processional as members of the Ashland District School high school band, under the direction of Jon Simonoff, performed “Pomp and Circumstance” while graduates made their way into the gymnasium.

Senior Class President Layla Burby offered the dedication of the graduation, followed by remarks from Salutatorian Carter Craig.

In his address, Craig reflected on the many milestones, activities, and shared experiences that shaped the Class of 2026. Through a timeline of memorable events, he highlighted the moments that brought classmates together and strengthened the bonds they formed throughout their years at Ashland District School.

Valedictorian Callie Cullins spoke about the value of time and the opportunities it presents. She reminded her classmates that every person is given the same 24 hours each day and encouraged her fellow graduates to make the most of the time they have by pursuing their goals, embracing opportunities and cherishing the moments that matter most.

Additional student presentations included a dedication to parents by Cahley Buchheit and a musical performance by Macy MacLean, who sang “Landslide” by Fleetwood Mac.

One of the highlights of the evening was the presentation of scholarships. Guidance Director Lynwood McHatten announced that members of the Class of 2026 were awarded more than $319,000 in scholarships, recognizing the graduates’ academic achievements, leadership, community involvement and future aspirations.

Superintendent/Principal Joel Hall delivered remarks that mixed humor with encouragement. Hall challenged graduates to make their mark on the world, joking that while this generation may be preparing to take over, his generation intends to “give them a run for it.”

His message emphasized perseverance, determination, and the importance of continuing to learn and grow beyond high school.

Diplomas were presented by Hall, School Board Chairperson Brenda Clark and Assistant Principal Jordan Beaulier.

As the Class of 2026 recessed from the gymnasium for the final time as Ashland District School students, graduates celebrated not only the completion of their high school careers but also the beginning of a new chapter filled with opportunity and promise.
