Woodland man arrested after allegedly pointing gun at sheriff’s deputy

The Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Woodland man Wednesday morning who they say pointed a gun at a sheriff’s deputy after the man called the police to report that “people were being shot.”

Deputies took Robert Grosser, 46, into custody without incident, Sheriff Peter Johnson said.

Pending charges against him include possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, a Class B felony; criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, a Class C felony; and obstructing government administration, a Class D misdemeanor, Johnson said.

Grosser’s arrest came four days after his alleged confrontation with police as the sheriff’s office awaited a warrant.

A sheriff’s deputy responded to a trailer on the Colby Siding Road in Woodland on June 20 after an “irate man” called law enforcement several times and alleged that “his ex-girlfriend was crazy” and that “people were being shot,” Johnson said.

When the deputy arrived, Grosser pointed a firearm at them. The deputy retreated and Grosser returned to the trailer. Attempts by law enforcement to communicate with him were unsuccessful.

Grosser is being held at the Aroostook County Jail in Houlton, according to an inmate database.

The Maine State Police Tactical Team and Caribou Police Department assisted the sheriff’s office, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said.

An investigation is ongoing, Johnson said.
