S.W. Collins Co. 5K, Kids Fun Run brings out large crowd

CARIBOU, Maine — S.W. Collins Co. is proud to share the success of this year’s annual 5K race, held Sunday, June 21. With over 175 registrations we nearly doubled participation over last year, making  this one of our biggest races.

It was a great morning all around, with runners, walkers, families and supporters coming  together for a mix of competition, fitness and community.

Leading the way in the men’s division was Alex LeClair of Presque Isle, finishing strong with  an impressive time of 17 minutes, 8.2 seconds. In the women’s division, Tracy Guerrette of Saint Agatha took first place, crossing the finish line at 20:26.50. Both racers put on an incredible performance.

“We were thrilled to see a record number of runners, walkers and children participating in  this year’s S.W. Collins 5K Road Race and Kids Fun Run. Since the race began in 1994 as part of our company’s 150th anniversary celebration, it has grown into a meaningful  community tradition,” Sam Collins, president of S.W. Collins Co., said “All proceeds from the event support Caribou athletics. We are proud to help encourage an active running and walking community here in Caribou. Thank you to everyone who participated, volunteered,  cheered and helped make this year’s race such a success.”

We were also excited to see such a strong turnout for the Kids Fun Run, which had 47 participants ranging in age from 2 to 12. This event is always a highlight, and this year was no different. From start to finish, it was full of energy, smiles and a lot of excitement. It’s  safe to say the next generation of runners is strong in the county.

Adding a little extra fun to the day, Sleepers Market generously donated a pair of running sneakers, which were raffled off to one lucky participant. We’re also grateful to Teagan Ewings and Leo Kashian for capturing so many great moments throughout the event.

Between the sunny weather and the turnout from the community, it truly was a morning to remember. The impact of this event goes beyond the finish line. It exemplifies our  commitment to our vision of building people and communities.
