The Aroostook Agency on Aging has been awarded an AmeriCorps Seniors grant totaling $123,000 from AmeriCorps, the federal agency for national service and volunteerism.
The funding will strengthen the Agency’s volunteer programs, enabling more volunteers to support older adults and individuals with disabilities while expanding the reach of essential services throughout Aroostook County.
For more than 50 years, the Aroostook Agency on Aging has helped older adults and individuals with disabilities remain independent, informed and connected to the resources they need to thrive. The agency’s longstanding partnership with AmeriCorps Seniors has engaged RSVP volunteers in meaningful service throughout Aroostook County.
This latest award represents AmeriCorps’ continued investment in a program with a proven record of connecting dedicated volunteers to opportunities that strengthen communities and improve lives.
“This renewed investment from AmeriCorps is a tremendous vote of confidence in our RSVP volunteers and the impact they’ve made across Aroostook County,” said Joy Barresi Saucier, executive director of the Aroostook Agency on Aging. “For years, RSVP volunteers have helped older adults remain independent while strengthening communities throughout northern Maine. We’re grateful for AmeriCorps’ continued confidence in our work and excited to build on that momentum.”
Last year, AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP volunteers at the Aroostook Agency on Aging contribute more than 27,000 hours of service, supporting 15 programs and helping thousands of older adults remain healthy, independent, and connected to their communities.
Through this funding, the agency will continue to engage AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP volunteers in roles that support programs including Meals on Wheels, Medicare education, Adult Day Services, health and wellness initiatives, community outreach and other essential services.
Adults aged 55 and older who serve through RSVP gain meaningful opportunities to use their skills, stay active, build relationships and make a lasting difference in the lives of others. Volunteers contribute their time, talents, and experience to help older adults remain independent while building a stronger network of community support throughout Aroostook County.
