While a high school reunion is routine enough and usually expected every ten years after commencement, some students take the practice a bit further when the decennial event comes around.
The Stockholm elementary class of 1972 has had a separate reunion the same weekend that the Caribou High School Class of 1976 reunited.
A small town, Stockholm operated an elementary school for grade 1 through 8 for decades. For high school, students attended neighboring Caribou High School. However, declining student population in Stockholm forced the closing of the town’s school, but the bonds formed during those eight years together remain close.
The 1972 class reunion occurred on July 24 at Madawaska Lake with 10 out of the original 12 who graduated together. It was a memorable time of reminiscing, much laughter and recounting “remember when” moments.
Some traveled great distances, such as from New York, South Carolina and Florida. Whether from in or out of state, they all agreed that the eighth grade reunion was well worth the trip.
At the gathering were Betty (Johnson) Gallagher, Debra (Zeigler) Walsh, Carol (Albert) Lamson, Beverly (Sodergren) Wardwell, Susan (Jepson) Leighton, Elaine (Wardwell) York, David Kirschmann, Jon Sund, Tom Campbell and Randy Farmer. Kenneth Coville was unable to attend and classmate Roland Albert is deceased.
