To the editor:
I decided to write this because of the beauty of The County and the benefit that tourists bring. They come not only to enjoy our landscape, but they spend money here and build The County’s reputation as a hospitable place to visit.
White birch trees with yellow falling leaves and maples, beech and ash
All over northern Maine, almost every year the same
The shades of red and gold, so beautiful and bold.
People come from far and wide just to view the countryside.
Some who grew up in The County take such joy in nature’s bounty.
We’re very glad to have them come to enjoy the view,
And it helps The County because they spend money, too.
Then along come winter’s “blessings,” cold and frosty, lots of snow.
Beauty in those gentle snowflakes, but tonight just watch it blow.
From the towns and country, where they don’t receive much snow,
Come the trailer loads of sleds to ride the trails they know.
And not only do they ride the trails, they have to sleep and eat,
Buy gas for their sleds, pay for their beds and food for week to eat.
I give praise to the Lord for the beauty of our land
and for each one of those who come to enjoy our County grand.
