The Walter T.A. Hansen Memorial Library has a few events up its “sleeve”, including a rock painting party this Saturday, June 24, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon.
Come to the library, pick out a rock, paint and seal it before taking it with you to hide “in plain sight” around town. Keep your eyes open for other folks’ hidden rocks. Take a picture of your find, post it to the library’s site before hiding it somewhere else.
The library’s annual Tag Sale fundraiser will be held in July and August. Days will be announced later. If you have items to donate, contact the library at 429-9625 to arrange to either drop them off or have them picked up. We are also looking for volunteers to help set up and run the sale.
The library will participate in Bikes for Books until Aug. 12. The three grade categories are pre-K-kindergarten, grades 1-2 and grades 3-6. Read books over the summer to have your name put into the appropriate bucket. There will be two winners in each category. Thanks go to the Aroostook Lodge 197 Masons for donating the bikes.
Regular happenings include Toddler Time on Tuesdays at 10, and Craft Club on Mondays from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. Bring your favorite cross stitch piece, knitting, crocheting or other craft to work on in the company of others.
The Fort Street Elementary School Grade 5 and 6 Chorus performed their year-end concert on Thursday, June 1. The group sang “The Water is Wide”, “Blues, Blues, Blues”, “Riff City” and “Inflections”. The Music Enrichment group from these grades sang “If I Only Had a Brain”. (Contributed photo)
Homecoming 2017
Homecoming 2017 will take place Aug. 10-13. For those intending to be part of the parade, sign up ahead of time to help with planning. Those who sign up after Aug. 6 will be charged $25. Sign-up sheets can be picked up at the Mars Hill Town Office or by going to www.homecomingdays.org.

Rotary Club
The Mars Hill Rotary Club met Tuesday, June 13 at the Aroostook Health Center. The first guest speaker was Darcy Bubar, nurse practitioner. She spoke about pain management and the need to start with conservative treatment. Many times relief can be obtained using physical therapy, yoga, etc. and trying mild anti-inflammatory meds before looking at potentially addictive meds.
The second speaker was Chinyere Gbugu, mother of Adaobi Gbugu, physician’s assistant at the Aroostook Health Center. She lives in Nigeria and built the Good Learning Academy to serve the less privileged children in the area. She also has a farm co-operative, Timsal Farms, to help feed the needy. Their biggest continuing need is for good water. She would like to have a bore hole dug to supply this need. Other needs are for school supplies and computers.

Sunday will have televised church available in the day room and the Mennonite Hymnsing at 6:30 p.m.. Monday will feature Nails by Shallie and Melissa at 9:30 a.m. and a Tea Social at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday will feature the Beauty Parlor at 8:30 a.m., Bingo at 9:30 a.m. and Card Games at 1:30 p.m.
