AUGUSTA, Maine — The Maine Warden Service has promoted a 25-year-veteran of the service to the position of Lieutenant.
Lt. Dan Menard of Aroostook County was selected on Aug. 14 in Augusta to oversee one of five Warden Service divisions based in Sidney. Menard filled a vacancy created after Lt. Tim Place retired a short time ago, having served more than 31 years with the Maine Warden Service.
“Lt. Menard rose to the top of a highly competitive promotional process and has now assumed full duties of his newly acquired position,” said Game Warden Cpl. John MacDonald via a press release. “We are fortunate to have promoted such a great person and strong leader.”
Menard has been with the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife since 1993, when he began his career as a district game warden in Biddeford. In 1999, attained the rank of sergeant and served the Greenville region, and eventually transferred to Aroostook County, where he currently lives.
He has served in many specialized capacities during his career to include being a K-9 handler, Incident Management Team (IMT) member, Critical Incident Stress Debrief (CISD) team member, cadre for the Maine Criminal Justice Academy, cadre for the Advanced Warden School and has managed the process of hiring game wardens since 2008.
Menard earned a bachelor of science degree in conservation law enforcement from unity college. he continued his education during his game warden career to earn a masters degree in business administration as well as a masters degree in business science. He also graduated from the 2014 National Association of Conservation Law Enforcement Chief’s Leadership Academy held in Shepherdstown, W. Va., at the National Conservation Training Center.
