The Learn Not to Burn fourth annual Poker Run is scheduled for Sunday, July 8, sponsored by the Pine State Motorcycle Club, with proceeds to benefit Aroostook County Learn Not to Burn.
“This a fun way to raise money for a worthy cause. In taking part, participants stand the chance of winning prizes and, at the same time, raising funds to educate the public about fire safety,” said Stuart Craig, event organizer.
While the event is sponsored by a motorcycle club, a motorcycle is not required to take part in the festivities.
“The poker run is open to cars, pickups, motorcycles or whatever your mode of transportation is,” said Craig.
The ride kicks off with registration in Ashland at 9 a.m., with riders departing from the Ashland Fire Department. The next stop is the Fort Fairfield Fire Department, then the Mars Hill Fire Department.
“Whitey’s Market in Oakfield is the fourth stop, then it’s back to Ashland for a barbecue,” said Craig.
At each stop, participants will draw a card for their hand. Once all five cards are drawn, the hand will be complete and recorded for the final results. A winner will be determined at 3 p.m. Craig said participation in the ride itself is not required to take part in the poker run.
“Folks can purchase hands without doing the run. Hands can be purchased right at the Ashland Fire Department,” said Craig.
The first-place hand takes the grand prize of $100. There will also be many door prizes.
