From the Bunkers (week of October 10, 2018)

HOULTON, Maine — This has been one of the last weeks of the official golf season at Houlton Community Golf Course. The irrigation water was turned off and drained this weekend and Monday we will pull out the pump and begin blowing out the lines to prepare for winter.

The greens got their final clipping on Sunday and the crew is getting all the equipment ready to be stored. With all of fall’s beautiful colors at full array, now is the time to come out and play as much golf as you can so you can enjoy the scenery. We will try to keep the greens as clear as we can.

The Lakeside Restaurant is still open regular hours for the balance of the month. In November they will have a schedule of Friday and Saturday nights for dinner and the famous brunch on Sunday. As thank you for their fans, Bill and Nancy will present “The Last Harrah” featuring the entertainment of ever popular Paul LaPointe on Friday Nov. 9. This will be the last weekend for this season, so call Nancy at 694-9494 to make reservations so that you can wish them a wonderful winter break.

Playing golf has been very rewarding for me. It is a great way to release your frustrations from a tension filled day. It is also a wonderful way to relax with friends and enjoy our great Maine outdoors. As a note, we are offering members and new players an opportunity to purchase a 2019 membership at the current prices.

This just needs to be paid in full by Dec. 31. I’m just saying, Christmas is coming and this would be a wonderful gift for a loved one. And it would given with their health in mind. Well, hope to see you on the course this week.
