Maple Meadow Farms announces art contest

MAPLETON — Last year, Maple Meadow Farms held an art contest to celebrate its fifth year of hosting a festival which celebrates rural and agricultural living, and now area artists will have another opportunity to put their creativity to the test.

“We had so many amazing submissions last year we decided this should be an annual event,” said Andrea Gregg, festival organizer. Last year’s winning entry by Brent Dyer of Presque Isle depicted colorful caricatures capturing the overall feel of the festival. Festival organizers feel the poster design contest is a great way to promote the arts and get an artistic interpretation of the event.

For the past five years, the Gregg family, of Maple Meadow Farms in Mapleton, has been hosting the admission-free festival. People from Aroostook County, and all over the state, join the family to observe farming and agricultural demonstrations, listen to live bluegrass music, savor country cuisine, and browse for antiques and quality crafts.

The Gregg family is hosting the art contest again this year in order to find an illustration to represent the essence of the festival.

“Our festival not only celebrates agricultural traditions, but the quality artistry and craftsmanship originating from rural areas,” Gregg said. “We want our promotional material to emphasize our mission, and we’re hoping an illustration will capture our celebration for the arts and agriculture.”

Maple Meadow Farms will feature the winning design on the 2012 Festival poster, the farm website, and marketing and promotional materials. A profile of the artist will appear on the website and at the Festival where posters featuring the illustration will also be sold. In addition to these promotional benefits, the winning artist receives $200.

Submissions will be accepted until March 31. For more information or to request contest rules and submission requirements, contact Gregg at www.maplemeadowfarms.com, by e-mail at farmfestival@roadrunner.com or by calling 764-3942.
