Winslow grabs top honor at Greater Houlton Christian Academy

HOULTON, Maine — Tom Zimmerman, head of school for Greater Houlton Christian Academy, announced May 22 that Cole Winslow will be this year’s valedictorian for the Class of 2019.

Winslow is the son of Kevin and Julie Winslow of Hodgdon. He has received numerous academic awards throughout his high school career, including the Christian Service Award; ACSI Distinguished Christian High School Student; and Houlton Rotary Club recognition. He is a member of the National Honor Society and the Technical Honor Society. Winslow was also the recipient of the Maine Principals Association Principal’s Award for 2019.

Athletically, Winslow has played varsity basketball, cross country, track and field, baseball and volleyball. He qualified individually for states in cross country and track and field. He received Aroostook League all-star recognition for basketball, cross country and volleyball and was recently honored as GHCA’s 2019 Male Athlete.

Winslow is a member of the Houlton Border Patrol Explorers Post 1820. He was chosen as the Patrol Explorer in Charge. He has assisted in gardening and harvesting for local food banks, assisted local residents with ground maintenance and many hours of community service. He attends Cary Baptist Church and the Houlton Wesleyan Youth Group and has also been a member of the GHCA Charity Group, assisting area residents with winter wood supply, yard work and more.

Winslow enjoys four wheeling, hiking, kayaking, hammocking and spending time with family and friends. He will attend the University of Maine at Augusta, pursuing a degree in aviation.
