Limestone honors eldest resident

Lifelong Limestone resident Gretchen Griffeth, 95, received a special honor recently as the recipient of the town’s Boston Post Cane, which goes to a community’s eldest resident. Friends, family and town officials turned out on July 3 as Limestone Town Manager Elizabeth Dickerson led the official presentation. Griffeth received a handmade replica of the original cane, a keepsake made by Tom Cote of Limestone, so the original could go back into the town vault. Friends and relatives at the award festivities included Tom and Carlie Marquis, Galen and Margy Griffeth, Fred and Jane Griffeth, Patty Perry, Gary Griffeth and great-granddaughter Sydney Durepo. Many nieces and nephews, church friends and other town residents also attended. The Town Office provided a celebratory cake and punch for the occasion.
