PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — More than 30 students and staff members from Zippel Elementary School and Presque Isle High School are in isolation after people from both schools tested positive for COVID-19.

In a memo released on Tuesday, SAD 1 Superintendent Ben Greenlaw said that a person associated with Zippel who tested positive was last in school on Monday, Jan. 25. Seventeen students and five staff members who are close contacts are now isolating at home and are expected to return to the building on Feb. 5.

A person from Presque Isle High School also tested positive recently and was last in school on Jan. 25. Eleven students and three staff members are in isolation due to potential exposure and are also expected to return Feb. 5.

Greenlaw noted that both schools have enough substitute teachers to fill in for those who are absent and keep the schools open for classes and after-school activities.
