115 Years Ago – July 10, 1906

Barn gets a facelift — George Paul is improving several of his buildings, including painting his barn.

Amusement in the round  — Crabb & Malcolm’s Steam Merry-Go-Round opened for the summer on the grounds near the B. & A. Station.

100 Years Ago – July 14, 1921

Seeking an airplane George Shaw of Caribou has gone downstate to purchase an air machine. He hopes to do some flying along the coast this summer.

Joins Grange Store staff — Sidney Brown, at one time a resident of Caribou but for the past several years residing in Stockholm, accepted a position in the Caribou Grange Store.

75 Years Ago – July 10, 1946

Refinish project — The Freme Building on Main Street and Harvey’s Pharmacy received a fresh coat of paint on their buildings this week.

Caribou Recreation Program opens successfully — Nearly 2000 children participated in the newly organized Caribou Recreation activities here in the opening week of the program, according to Director Emery Plourde. The Caribou program, believed to be one of the best equipped in the County. 

50 Years Ago – July 14, 1971

New England Telephone appoints local man — Richard Baker Jr. of Caribou has been appointed New England Telephone’s motor vehicle foreman in Presque Isle. Baker joined the company in 1961 and has served as custodian and garage mechanic.

Commend volunteer firemen The Town of Stockholm is proud of its Volunteer Fire Department headed by Fire Chief Delmar Brisette. Three units of trucks and a squad of 21 volunteers have answered many calls in this small community.

25 Years Ago – July 10, 1996

Double donation David Harlan, representing the Aroostook Teen Leadership Camp, accepted donations from the Quartermaster Don McDougal of the Caribou Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9389 and Jeanette Hanson, VFW Auxiliary president.

County Sports given award County Sports Inc. of Caribou has been honored for outstanding snowmobile sales during the 1995-96 season. The firm received the award for selling at least 100 new Polaris snowmobiles last season.
