Candidates earn writer’s support

To the editor:

There are two seats open on the city council this election. Lately I have had several people ask me who they should vote for, and my answer to them is that I would rather tell them who I intend to vote for.

One of the candidates running, David Martin, is a seasoned veteran of the city council. I served with Dave for several years and found him to be knowledgeable, reasonable and respectful regardless of the issues at hand. Seven people serving on one board all with different opinions and philosophies do not always agree on every issue presented. That’s to be expected and Dave accepts differences of opinions and discusses them with respect and takes the outcome calmly and in stride. He understands and is experienced in council procedure, and would be an asset to have back on council. He definitely has my vote.

I am also supporting incumbent Jody Smith. I found that under his leadership as mayor, council committees got their jobs done in a timely manner, and issues, whether simple or very tough, were dealt with fairly and in an acceptable time frame. Again, we don’t always agree on the outcome, but we can agree to disagree respectfully. I would like to see him have the chance to continue to serve the city of Caribou.

So, when asked, I tell them I’m voting for David Martin and Jody Smith.
