The elementary school and middle school in Washburn held their end-of-year awards ceremonies on Thursday, June 19.
Many awards were given out for honor roll, perfect attendance, academic excellence and participation in various activities. Each year one special student from each class is awarded the Citizenship Award. Fifth grade teacher Mrs. Worcester summed up what it is to be a good citizen.
“A good citizen is someone that is honest, they have the courage to tell the truth even when it is difficult or unpopular. A good citizen is someone who is compassionate and caring, always putting others’ wants and needs before their own. A good citizen is someone who is respectful of themselves, their peers and adults. They take care of their own property and the property of others. A good citizen is someone who is responsible; they complete assignments on time and to the best of their ability. They help to keep their classroom and the school clean and safe.”
This year’s Citizenship Awards went to: first grade (two classrooms) — Roger Rowe and Emmerson Brown, second grade — Hilary Driscoll, third grade — Mitchell Turner, fourth grade — Olivia Blackstone, fifth grade (two classrooms) — Patrick Tardie II and Liddia Collins, sixth grade — Paul Tardie III, seventh grade — Mollie Clark, and eighth grade — Austin Morin.
