     CARTER, Dennis A., 68, MAPLETON, at Massachusetts, July 2, 2014. Arrangements are under the care of Duncan-Graves Funeral, Presque Isle.

    MAPLETON – Dennis A. Carter, 68, passed away July 2, 2014, surrounded by his family at Massachusetts General Hospital. He was born in Washburn on March 30, 1946, the son of Maurice R. “Bill” and Laura Belle (Wilcox) Carter.
    He graduated from Presque Isle High School in the first class to consolidate from Mapleton in 1964. For 44 years, he was a proud member of the plumbers and pipefitters UA Local 716 of Augusta. Dennis learned this trade from his Uncle Arthur Carter of Easton. He enjoyed fabricating and building projects in his shop.
    He loved his family and friends, and most recently his many trips into Clyde’s camp. He will be remembered for his knack at making new friends, his quick wit and his great stories. He will be deeply missed. He was an avid outdoorsman and horseman.
    He is survived by his wife of 47 years and love of his life, Marilyn (Higgins) Carter of Mapleton; two sons, Martin Carter, and Daron Carter and his wife, Terry, all of Castle Hill; special grandchildren: grandson, Spencer of Fredericksburg, VA, and granddaughters, MacKenzie and Danni Rae Carter of Ashland; two brothers and their wives, Gary and Sandra Carter, Kevin and Jeanna Carter, all of West Chapman; several nieces and nephews.
    He was predeceased by his parents; and a niece, Lynn Starr Carter.
    Friends called 6-8 p.m., Monday July 7, 2014, at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle, where funeral services were held 1 p.m., Tuesday, with Nathan Gardiner officiating. Interment was at Southside Cemetery, Mapleton. A reception was held immediately following the burial at the Mapleton Lions Hall.
