Fire crews from two different fire departments worked together to put out a residential structure fire that broke out in Fort Fairfield on Sunday, Dec. 17.

Fort Fairfield Fire Department responded at 11:47 a.m. to the fire at a home on 65 Currier Rd. Fire crews extinguished the fire and cleared the scene at 2:30 p.m. The Easton Fire Department provided mutual aid to Fort Fairfield fire crews.

The cause of the fire was an electrical malfunction with the home being deemed a total loss, according to a Fort Fairfield Fire Rescue Facebook post.

No one was injured. Three family members and their two pets escaped the blaze. The American Red Cross is providing assistance to the family. They were able to get out of the home because of working smoke detectors, said Fort Fairfield Fire Chief Michael Jalbert.

“Please remember to check your smoke detectors as a safety measure, and if you need assistance installing, or providing smoke detectors, contact the Fort Fairfield Fire Department,” Jalbert said.

Presque Isle Fire Department provided ambulance coverage for the rest of the community during the fire.
