District 1 of the Maine Veterans of Foreign Wars, along with the Lister Knowlton VFW Post 9389 of Caribou, are pleased to announce Maren Moir as the VFW Teacher of the Year for both the District and Post levels.
Moir achieved these awards due to her dedicated work ethic to not only her students but also her community. She teaches at the Loring Job Corps Center and in addition to teaching a rigorous multi-level high school curriculum, she continues to also ensure all of her students graduate from the program with a higher sense of patriotism and civic responsibility. Morin incorporates civics and history into her lesson plans emphasizing the importance to remember those who served and continue to serve.

Prior to teaching Moir had the privilege of serving as an intern for U.S. Sen. Susan Collins and found herself in the front row, admiring how the senator continued to work for the people of Maine. Moir learned a lot from that immersion and challenged herself to find ways of leading others towards positive success where she soon found herself taking on the role as a teacher.
Moir found her calling at the Loring Center where she feels she is making an impact in the lives of her students and the generations to come. In her nomination packet many of her peers wrote how she is a driving force in not only the academic areas, but also the entire center. In addition it was noted she takes on challenges as opportunities with a contagious and can do attitude.
Everyone in the District 1 VFW and the Caribou VFW salute her for her selfless service to our youth and wish her the best of luck in bringing the state award back to northern Maine.
