The town of Ashland has announced the appointment of Mitchell Wheeler as lieutenant with the Ashland Police Department.
Wheeler brings more than two decades of military, law enforcement and security leadership experience to the role.
Wheeler began his career serving nearly nine years in the United States Air Force as a security police officer, earning multiple commendations, including the Heroism Award and Airman of the Year.
Following his honorable discharge, he entered law enforcement in 2000, serving with departments in Cumberland, Yarmouth, Presque Isle, and later the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office, where he spent ten years and became a certified K9 handler.
In addition to his law enforcement service, Wheeler has held leadership roles in hospital security programs at Cary Medical Center and Houlton Regional Hospital, building highly effective teams to ensure patient and staff safety. His extensive certifications include SWAT operations, drug interdiction, domestic violence intervention, FBI security programs, and more. He has also been recognized with the Maine Chiefs’ Life Saving Award.
“I look forward to working with Chief Montpetit, the officers of Ashland, Town Manager Alicia Burby, and the rest of the town of Ashland team,” said Wheeler. “I love serving my community and believe in God, family and country.”
Ashland is proud to welcome Lt. Wheeler and looks forward to the positive impact he will bring to the department and the community, Burby said.
“Lt. Wheeler’s experience and dedication to service make him an outstanding addition to our police department,” she said. “His leadership will strengthen our commitment to safety and community trust.”
