PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Northern Light AR Gould Hospital is pleased to announce the return of outpatient pulmonology services with the addition of pulmonologist Wendy Ezegbunam, MD to the hospital’s medical team.
“Outpatient pulmonology services have been very limited since last fall. We are thrilled to be able to reopen this service as of this week,” Daryl Boucher, RN, vice president of operations, said. “We know that receiving care close to home can make a tremendous difference for patients and their families. When combined with AR Gould’s excellent Pulmonary Rehab program, we are able to see many patients return to higher levels of functioning and independence.”
Dr. Ezegbunam will be providing comprehensive outpatient pulmonary care, including the evaluation and management of chronic lung diseases such as asthma and COPD, assessment of lung nodules, chronic cough, interstitial lung disease and unexplained respiratory symptoms. She will also interpret pulmonary function testing and work closely with patients and their primary care providers to develop individualized treatment plans.
“I was drawn to pulmonology because it combines complex medical problem-solving with the opportunity to build lasting relationships with patients. Respiratory conditions can affect every aspect of a person’s life, and I find it especially rewarding to help patients understand their lung health, breathe easier, and get back to doing the things they enjoy,” Dr. Ezegbunam said. “What I’m most passionate about is the collaborative aspect — really listening to a patient’s goals and lifestyle and building a treatment plan around what matters to patients, not just the diagnosis.”
Dr. Ezegbunam earned her medical degree from The University of the West Indies in Jamaica. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine and her fellowship in Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine at SUNY Health Science Center in Brooklyn, New York. She is board certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care Medicine with the American Board of Internal Medicine.
“My goal is for every patient to feel heard, respected, and involved in their care. I truly believe that when patients understand their condition and participate in treatment decisions, we can achieve the best possible outcomes,” Dr. Ezegbunam said.
Dr. Ezegbunam will be seeing patients at the Northern Light Health Center in Fort Fairfield.
