The Peace Park Committee announced the dedication of the newly completed Peace Park Pavilion in honor of Tom Powers, a cherished community member and tireless advocate for the revitalization of Presque Isle, including the Peace Park project.
Powers was the kind of person every community hopes to have, someone who showed up, lent a hand, and quietly made things better for everyone around him, committee members said. As executive director of the Presque Isle Industrial Council and Skyway Industrial Park, he brought that same spirit of service and dedication to every corner of the community he loved.

“He believed in Peace Park. He believed in creating a place where families could gather, children could play, and neighbors could connect,” Lucy Richard, chair of the Peace Park Committee, said. “His commitment helped move this project forward, step by step, from an idea to where we are today.”
In the world of aviation, people often speak of guidance, teamwork and steady hands. Powers embodied all of these qualities. He helped keep the park effort on course, encouraged the committee when the work felt challenging, and reminded committee members that meaningful things take time and dedication.
The completion of the Peace Park Pavilion stands as a testament to Powers’ vision and to the power of community working together.

A plaque names the pavilion the Powers Flight Deck, and reads: “Honoring a friend and volunteer who helped Peace Park take flight.”
Contributions by the Presque Isle Tech Center building and trades students, Presque Isle Rotary Club and S.W. Collins made the pavilion possible, and are honored with a plaque inside the structure.
“Tom Powers left us far too soon, but his legacy will endure in this park, in this pavilion, and in the community,” Richard said. “He devoted himself to serving. We will carry his vision forward, in his honor and in his name.”
