HOULTON, Maine — The boys and girls of the co-operative “Greater Houlton” varsity cross country squad played host to several teams from around the area on Friday, Sept. 4 at Houlton’s Community Park and RSU 29’s Bird Farm trail system.
The Shiretowners, coming off of last year’s campaign as Class C champions, successfully defended the home turf with a considerable point differential over Class B rivals Presque Isle High School and Caribou High School.
The Lady Shires did a lot of work rebuilding the team from a year ago but a mid-race injury to the front runner spoiled the debut. Despite the circumstances many were able to rise up and race to new personal bests and still finish with a strong showing.
