Fort Fairfield Police Chief sworn in as president of Maine Chiefs of Police Association

FORT FAIRFIELD, Maine — The Town of Fort Fairfield is proud to announce that Police Chief Matthew Cummings was officially sworn in as president of the Maine Chiefs of Police Association. The swearing-in ceremony took place Oct. 1st at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor during the association’s 2026 Fall Conference.

Having Chief Cummings selected to lead the statewide organization marks a tremendous milestone, not only recognizing his personal career dedication but also bringing statewide distinction to the Fort Fairfield community and the Fort Fairfield Police Department.

In a social media post, Town Manager Aaron Huotari praised the chief’s appointment, stating, “Chief Cummings works tirelessly every day to keep our community safe, supported, and moving forward. We know he will bring that same steady leadership and dedication to advancing professional law enforcement across the State of Maine.”

The Maine Chiefs of Police Association is dedicated to advancing the art and science of police administration, promoting professional police standards, and fostering cooperation among law enforcement agencies throughout the State of Maine.

Chief Cummings has served as a law enforcement officer in Aroostook County for the last 23 years, serving as chief since July of 2021.
