Voters approved: 994 “yes” to 352 “no” and now it’s official. The Houlton Community Arts Center will include a new visual performing arts center, entry, front house and auditorium improvements.     The new building, along with renovations to the existing HHS music area, will add much needed space for the school and town programs.
The entire project will cost $5 million. As of right now, $450,000 has been raised. A portion of the money is in the school budget already, but instead of spreading out over the years, the renovations will be done all at once. The Arts Council has to raise a total of $2.5 million.
It has been a four-year process to get this Arts Center planned and approved. Everyone involved is very happy it was passed.
Senior Brian Adams is happy about the approval.
“The arts center will be beneficial for future students of HHS,” he said.
The Arts Center will attempt to break ground in May 2009.
