Unbeknownst to many students at Houlton High School, the teachers of grades 9-12 are all sporting shiny, new white Mac laptops. These laptops were given to teachers all around the state due to Maine’s MLTI program.     The new laptops, which were given to the school for no cost, have been a big hit with the teachers. At first, some say they were apprehensive, but even those teachers were soon amazed with the great graphics and new applications available on their new toys.
“These are very incredible machines,” said teacher Dwayne Morse. “Very sleek, lightweight and with great applications.”
The laptops put all the teachers in the state on the same level of technology and also make communication very easy from teacher to teacher. The “iChat” application allows teachers to contact each other instantly without leaving the comfort of their own classroom.
There are hardly any real responsibilities with these new tools. The teachers are able to use them how they please for the most part.
“There are have been very few strings attached so far,” stated Morse.
