In the vault — The work of building a vault in the basement of the fire engine house for safe keeping of books containing the town records was completed today. The record books have been kept in different places and the selectmen deemed it advisable to build a vault where books could be in one place and protected from fire.

Can it — The selectmen have also recently purchased a lot of garbage cans which will be placed at convenient points in the business section of the town to receive refuse from the stores and shops. These cans will be cared for by the “dump” keeper every forenoon.

In this 1942 picture, two people stand near the cannon in Market Square, and in the other picture, the cannon base apparently after the metal had been removed.

Consideration is being given to tearing down the main plant building, making way for a parking area that would accommodate approximately 200 vehicles.
