Patten Pioneer Days 2009 schedule of events

Monday, August 3
    9 a.m. – 12 p.m. VBS “Boomerang Express” at Patten Pentecostal Church for  ages 3-14
at 5:30 p.m.
    Co-ed softball game at 7 p.m.        Mr. Hairy Legs contest at the Patten Rec. Dept. Contestant entry fee is $10. Winner will receive $50 cash, runner-up $25 cash.

Tuesday, August 4

    9 a.m. – 12 p.m. VBS
    8 a.m. – 3 p.m.    Community yard sale in parking lot next to Red Moose gift shop (in case of rain, moved to rec. building.)
    4 p.m.     At the park there will be a chili contest (eat free and vote), pig scramble, kids field day (inside rec. if rain), face painting, frog jumping contest, bounce house, 3-legged races, sack race, obstacle course, bubble blowing contest, tug o’ war and fun with parachutes.
    5:30 p.m.Co-ed softball gam.e

Wednesday, August 5

    9 a.m. – 12 p.m. VBS
    10 a.m. Pictures with exotic birds at Patten Recreation Department.
    5:30 p.m.Co-ed softball game.
    7 p.m.     Miss Pioneer Pageant at Patten Recreation Department.
    6 – 10 p.m. Craig’s Clam Shop “‘car hop.”    

Thursday, August 6

    9 a.m. – 12 p.m. VBS
    1 p.m.     Teddy Bear Picnic at the park for ages five and under. Bring your own lunch (inside rec if raining).
    5 – 6:30 p.m. Spaghetti dinner  with concert pianist at United Methodist church, sponsored by United Methodist’s Women’s club. Donations at the door.
    5:30 p.m. Co-ed softball game.
    7 p.m.     Variety talent show, ages 16 and older at the Patten Rec. A $10 contestant entry fee will be charged. Winner gets $50 cash prize and runner-up gets $25 cash prize.

Friday, August 7

    All Day Farmer’s Market (inside rec building if raining).
    9 a.m. – 3 p.m.    KVHC Health Fair including “Cardiac Health”, walk with the Doc, free chair massages, kids bounce house, build your own sandwich, free blood pressure and BMI, hourly door prizes, strawberry shortcake, clown and balloon animals and guest speaker to discuss Cardiac Artery Disease, Healthy Eating and Exercise.
    11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Katahdin Trust free ice cream sundaes.
    12 – 1 p.m. East Mill Federal Credit Union free hot dogs and soda.
    6 – 7 p.m. VBS closing ceremonies.
    5 – 7 p.m. Mt. Chase’s 21st annual Fire Department chicken barbecue.
    9 p.m.     Fireworks at Shin Pond village.

Saturday, August 8

    All Day Quilt show and Flower show at the Historical Society, sidewalk art show, vendors and farmer’s market (inside rec if raining).
    9 a.m.    Walk/bike-a-thon starts, register at 8:30 a.m. at Patten Rec.
    10 a.m. Parade
    10:30 a.m. Antique car show (across from Lumberman’s Museum), arm wrestling contest, kids’ fair at Methodist Church and cow patty bingo in Richardson’s Hardware parking lot (buy your tickets from Sam Richardson, 50/50 winnings).
    11 a.m. Register for Geo bash at Chickadee Realty, also historical home tours at until 1 p.m.
    1 p.m.     Music in the park featuring “North Folk Cure” and “Overland Warehouse” (inside rec. from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. if raining).
    2:30 p.m. Bingo at the rec.
    4 p.m.     Old fashion, Fashion Show at Historical Society.
    4 – 6 p.m. Mason steak dinner.
    4:30 p.m. Raffle/contest winners announced at park.
    7 p.m.     Home run derby at the park with 50/50 winner pot.
    9 p.m. – 1 a.m.    Adult dance-50’s Sock Hop, $10/person, $15/couple.

Sunday, August 9

    9 – 10 a.m. Outdoor church service.
    10 – 11 a.m. Music and brunch in the park.
    1 p.m.     Foul shooting contest for all ages.
    2 p.m.     Pie eating contest at the park.
    4 p.m.     Co-ed softball tourney game.
    All Day Baking contest/dessert sale.

Activities at the Lumberman’s Museum
August 7 and 8
    All Day Flying, hanger pizza, free field camping available.
August 8
    11 a.m. – 4 p.m. John Birmingham and the RFD gang, Bean Hole Bean supper, blacksmith demo, chainsaw carvers, horseshoe pit, kid’s scavenger hunt, crafters.
    9 a.m.    And going throughout the afternoon Young Eagles, kids 8-17 fly free (parental consent required). Weather permitting.
    7 p.m.     Candy drop for ages 12 and under.
